Fastr Broadband boosts York connectivity for 8k more residents

Fastr Broadband has completed a broadband rollout in York, giving 8,000 homes and businesses access to high speeds of up to 8,000 Mbps from the full fibre network.

Lindsay Wilkinson Digital City Executive for York City Council said: “This private investment by Fastr completes one of missing pieces of the jigsaw for York’s digital connectivity, where the mix of historic buildings and cobbled streets have made it challenging to build strong networks.”

The rollout provides a free connection to specialist sexual violence charity Survive, helping support survivors to access services with stable connections throughout appointments.

Mags Godderidge, Survive CEO said: “During the COVID19 pandemic, we invested in technology to allow us to continue supporting survivors remotely.

“Since then, around 50% of all those who access our services and interventions do so remotely – either online or over the telephone. It’s therefore vital that we have a stable connection throughout appointments.

“Thanks to Fastr Broadband, we can now work with up to seven survivors simultaneously online in the safe knowledge that calls will not drop out and cameras can stay on.”

Pete Evans, Director, Fastr Broadband commented: “Homes and businesses inside York’s city walls can now access faster broadband and just like Survive will see a transformative difference in their connectivity, call streaming and overall daily internet usage/experience.”
