Ofcom has published its proposals for the new Telecoms Access Review 2026 (TAR), which it hopes will improve competition and investment in gigabit-capable networks, maintaining the competitive landscape created by the preceding Wholesale Fixed Telecoms Market Review 2021 and go further to promote better outcomes for end-users.

Pulse Fibre has welcomed the Scottish Government’s recent legislation requiring all new homes to be gigabit broadband-ready, calling it “a vital step forward” in ensuring homes are equipped for the demands of modern living.

New homes in England will be built with gigabit broadband connections and providers will be able to get faster broadband into blocks of flats following new laws the government has brought into force.

The Government is aiming to cut broadband bills for low-income households through a new service run by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) which allows ISPs to verify whether customers are eligible for extra financial support.
